3D Printed Items:
- Backpack Clip: TPU
Build instructions:
Dissasemble:
- Remove 4 screws on back of light.
- Desolder (or snip) the wires going to the light.
- Unscrew the plastic Hirth joint (thumb screw connecting the solar panel to the light). Make sure not to lose the nut or thumb screw, we will use later.
- Pull the wires that go to the light all the way through the plastic body of the solar panel housing. The light section should be completely seperate from the solar panel section.
Modify the case:
- With a 1/4 inch drill bit, drill through the center plastic housing next to the Hirth joint.
- A 1/4 inch hole in the dead middle is what you're aiming for. You will probably miss the dead center a little bit. After your initial drilling attempt, dry fit the the SMA adapter. To correct, put the drill bit in the hole of the plastic case, start the drill, and apply pressure to center the desired location.
- The IPEX to SMA is a tight fit, so make sure it is as close to dead center as reasonably possible on the first attempt.
Weather Proof:
- Silicone Adhesive or hot glue (if it is the only thing you have) the cavity where the wires to the light ran.
- Silicone Adhesive or hot glue the silicone cover for the switch to the plastic housing.
- AFTER inserting the IPEX To SMA adapter into the new hole, attach an antenna and tighten it down. Tightening it will square up the IPEX to SMA adapter to the plastic hosuing.
- Then, silicone adhesive or hot glue the IPEX to SMA adapter to the plastic housing.
Backpack clip:
- Print the carabiner clip in TPU. The TPU is chemically resistant and flexible enough to resist being a backpack node.
- Most TPU prints are designed to be flexible throughout the whole print, this one is not.
- I recommend that you print with 75% infill and 6 walls so that it will be strong enough to resist any unwanted flex while also being rigid enough to keep shape and hold the nut without slipping.
Attach battery connection:
- REMOVE the 18650 from the battery slot.
- Solder a 2.0 mm JST battery connector to the batter holder terminals.
- Attach the JST connection to the RAK battery connection.
Final Assembly:
- If you have a GPS antenna, you will want to double side tape or hot glue it down.
- Pack everything into the body.
- Screw in 4 screws to close container.
