This is a blade holder designed specifically for slicing thick materials like 20mm Styrofoam into thin, consistent sheets.
Features
Vertical Blade Alignment: Specifically designed to hold an 18mm blade (e.g., OLFA)
Guide Integration: Includes a 12x3mm rectangular slot to accommodate a standard circular saw side guide (fence).
Bi-directional Cutting: The design allows for both Push-cut and Pull-cut motions.
Dual Handedness: The Skid and Side Guide can be swapped between the left and right sides for both right and left-handed use.
Slicer Mirroring: Since Body A and Body B are not perfectly symmetrical, left-handed users may also choose to mirror the parts in their slicer before printing to achieve a layout that perfectly suits their needs.
Included Parts
The model consists of the following components:
Body A & Body B: The main assembly to secure the blade.
Skid: The base part that glides over the material.
Printable Side Guide: Provided as an option, but using a metal circular saw side guide is highly recommended for better durability and precision.
Tips for Smooth Cutting
For the best results, the bottom of the holder needs to slide effortlessly over the foam.
If your chosen material feels "sticky" on the foam, I recommend applying PTFE (Teflon) tape or UHMWPE tape to the bottom surface. This will ensure a smooth gliding experience.
Hardware Required (BOM)
Bolts & Screws:
M5 x 8mm Hex Socket Head Bolt: 2 pcs
M5 x 18mm Hex Socket Head Bolt: 2 pcs
M5 Wing Bolt (or Thumb Screw): 1 pair (for securing the blade)
M5 Wing Bolt (or Thumb Screw): 1 or 2 pcs (for securing the side guide)
Nuts:
M5 Nut: 6 pcs (4 for the main body + 2 for the side guide)
M5 Wing Nut: 1 pc (for the blade assembly)
Others:
18mm Large Cutter Blade: 1 pc (e.g., OLFA L-type)
Circular Saw Side Guide: 12x3mm rail (Highly recommended for durability)
Cutting Technique for Best Results
The "Score and Snap" Method: When cutting 20mm thick Styrofoam, I recommend extending the blade to 19mm to score the material. By leaving just 1mm uncut and then snapping it by hand, you can achieve a much cleaner and sharper finish compared to cutting all the way through in one go.
