This model allows you to mount a Meta Quest 3 to a camera rig/gimbal.
This can be especially useful to record stable dynamic shots in mixed reality, without requiring on-device stabilization (which can result in cropped footage). Below is an example clip recorded using a DJI RS4 gimbal.
Besides the printed pieces, you'll also need:
- This specific mounting bar is also required for this piece. It is inserted in a hole on the side of the print, and enables you to screw this to a gimbal/rig with a standard ¼ inch screw.
- Two rubber bands
- Some felt floor protector stickers
- A camera gimbal that can support the size and weight of the Quest 3
The piece includes a phone holder which centers the wide-angle lens of the phone to the Quest's lens, allowing you to see what the Quest sees on the phone screen.
Although the actual footage is recorded on the Quest itself, the phone can act as a view-finder so you get an idea of what you're recording.
The .stl included is sized for an iPhone 15 PRO, but the .blend file has some adjustable geometry node values which let you easily re-size the phone holder for other types of phones.
For more detail on how to assemble the rig, follow this thread.
This model started as a derivative of Luc Apolit's Quest 3 stand, but I later commissioned Arthur Bourdot to re-model it from scratch in blender, which is the file shared here.
