These brackets are designed to fit a 1/2 wooden dowel or metal rod.

They can be fastened to another structure with #8 flat-head screws.

I originally created these so I could build a child-proofing lock for Ikea's Trofast using 1/2 wooden dowels to keep my 3D printing supplies out of my daughter's hands.
