I've seen the led docks from Nintendo in stores go for as much as €25,- and I thought that's too expensive, so I made my own. I printed the base, which I designed to house the led strip, acrylic plate and the Nintendo switch dock itself. The image you see on the acrylic plate is not my own, so i can't include it in my files, but with a quick google search, I'm sure you'll be able to find it.

To make this project, you'll need to buy a usb led strip, which can be cut to length (to see if this is the case, simply check if there are any scissor symbols on the strip. If there are, it can be cut).

To create the image on the acrylic plate, you need to download an image first. This image should be black and white. Import this into inkscape or any other preferred program (the following instructions may vary though) and use the option "Trace Bitmap" to create a path from it. This option can be found when you right click on the image. After putting the newly traced path where you want it, export the entirety of this document as a dxf and send it over to your laser cutter. Cut the outline and engrave the image.

Once the print is done, simply remove all the stringing. that is basically everything you have to do to get this to work.

The corners of the plate turned out to be quite sharp. I reccommend taking a small file to it and rounding off the corners slightly for a better look and feel.

First you need to cut the led strip to length. Make sure the wire can reach the usb port on the left side of the Nintendo switch dock. Once that is done, secure the strip in place. Next you need to take the acrylic plate and put it into the opening above the led strip. It might be a tight fit, but this is good, because it keeps the plate in place properly. Now simply put the Nintendo switch dock on the platform behind the acrylic plate and plug the usb of the led strip in the port on the side of the dock. Finally, power your dock and it's done!
