The original model fit perfect. The only problem is that we needed it for a French door so there was not enough wood for the screws.  not to mention that when your kids/grandkids grow up and you don't need this, you have screw holes to fix.

I removed the ears for the screws and added a flange on the inside to hold the guard in place.  to install, remove door handle. slide over side that you want to protect and reinstall the guard by “trapping” it between the handle and door.  make sure the screw are tight so the guard does not slip.

I suppose a next version could put ears/screw holes on the inside (flange side) to secure to the door.
