This is an extremely simple optical beam shutter, driven by an Arduino Nano. It allows precise blocking of an optical beam (the servo can operate at up to 2 Hz). This device is ideal for optical chopping at very low frequencies or for simply blocking the beam during other operations.
The beam block is designed to handle decent laser power and has been tested with lasers up to 1 W (Anodized Al target). The height can be adjusted using a screw on the servo holder, and the rod length can be easily extended with additional steps. I also added rubber feet to ensure it stays stable on the optical table.
The servo is powered by 5V from USB and is connected to digital I/O pin 9 on the Arduino.
