A face-mounted butt hinge that allows over-travel, enabling one or both connected boards to drop up to 45° below flat. Secured with side-facing screws, it is ideal for collapsible structures, fold-out surfaces, and applications requiring extended motion beyond traditional hinges.

The base model has a slight lip to help positioning on the edge of the board.

The included STL file has a few parameters in front, which allow customization. The main ones are:

• step determines how long each separate barrel will be in mm. 10 is reasonable but if you need a very narrow hinge, you may go much shorter.
• steps how many barrels (or “teeth”) there should be. Minimum is 1, 2 are better, more than 4 is probably overkill unless you go specifically for a piano hinge. The total length of the hinge is determined by step * steps * 2.
• angle only tested for 45 ° but you may experiment.

The hinge is joined by raw filament.
