This thing that happens to look like a large toilet paper roll holder is actually a large plastic wrap dispenser I've made for my wife! Just place your container/plate on the cutting board, pull the cellophane over and tear. It is sized to work for BJ's Wholesale Club's store brand 3000 feet by 12 inch roll.
Instructions
You will need a few parts in addition to the 3D printed pieces.
1.) 1x large platform to act as your base that is at least 20 inches wide, and is thick enough to inset the mounting bolts. Mine is a cutting board approximately 20in x 15in x .6in
2.) 8x 5/16th in bolts with matching nuts to mount the brackets, the holes were sized at about 8mm so the bolts I used were 5/16th which is slightly smaller. Pick your length based on the thickness of your board and bracket, keeping in mind you will need to inset the bolt into the bottom of your base unless you want them to stick out as feet.
3.) 2x 5/16th x 1.75 in Linch pins to hold the bearings on, note the end is shaped like a D.
Print the parts:
2 x brackets: print them bolt holes down with support. The only place support is used is the linch pin hole.
2 x gear bearings: print them just as you would Emmets gear bearing, but flange down.
I polished my ABS printed brackets (not the bearings) in an acetone vapor bath, this is optional.
Assemble:
- Mount the brackets to your base spaced to fit your roll of plastic wrap (this will involve measuring and drilling holes), keep in mind there is some added thickness for the gear bearings which is approximately 6.5 mm (3.25 mm for each bearing). The mounting holes are slotted to make getting the spacing a bit easier. This is also where you would make insets so that the bolt heads do not protrude from the bottom of your base.
2.) Slide bearings into the end of the roll, hold the whole roll with bearings in place with one hand and slide the linch pins in to retain it. Be careful not to let one pin hold the entire weight of the roll, with leverage it could damage your bracket. This is also why I did not make the gear bearing a form fit to the linch pin.
