The internal camera of the Hi franlky is awful. The resolution is poor, the lighting is poor, it is too high to see the nozzle, and it's terrible in low light (even with the crappy little LED next to it). The Nebula camera has night vision, higher resolution, and (I understand on some machines) has spagetti detection (not on the Hi).
I'm not a fan of the gantry mounted stock camera and I tried a Nebula mount in the same position and didn't like it there either because the angle on the printhead didn't work for me.
I was using a spare tripod at the front left of the bed and liked how it worked, but it was bulky and too high, so I designed this mount post in AutoCAD. I don't use AutoCAD for mechanical design (I'm an electrical engineer), so I struggled tryting to design integral threads and gave up and went with a tap.
The design is for a tapped thread ¼-20 that I cut from a 1.5" bolt and had a thumb-jam nut. It is designed to straddle the left front foot and I used a piece of gorilla double-sided tape to stick it to the side of the high
Because I was going to cut treads with a tap, I printed in PLA with extra walls (5) and 20% infill.
The Nebula camera is USB plug-and-play (just plug it in and refresh the camera feed). The only hassle is that you need to unplug/replug it every time you restart the Hi. If you want it to work all the time without having to unplug/plug, you can disconnect the camera connector inside the X-axis right end housing and the Hi will then default to the Nebula. If you disconnect the internal camera, the LED also turns off.
