Got too many Billys and not enough shelf holes? Fear not - Billy Drill Buddy is here to save your sanity and your bookcases.

This model is a precision drill template designed specifically for IKEA’s "Billy" bookcase. It helps you add exta shelf holes, that align perfectly with the existing ones - so your shelve doesn''t wobble like your life choices.

You get two versions:

Overengineered Metal Edition

features metal reinforcements with M4 nuts and M3 pins. Why? Because I've got a whole army of Billys to modify, and this thing is built to last longer than your furniture warranty. Also, double M4 as a drill guide (see below) will ensure absolute 90 degrees for positioning your drill.

Simple Edition 
for the minimalist in all of us. Just clean up the drill guide holes a bit with 3.5mm drill, and you’re good to go. Might not last forever, but hey - neither do IKEA hex keys.

Details for the metal version:

4x M4 nuts (those are guide rails for a 3.5 mm drill) - press nuts from both sides of dwo holes with pliers. Use a dab of super glue to make sure those won't ever come loose. Drill through those 2 holes with a 3.5 mm drill, so the threads are destroyed, but you get a very tight fit.

3x M3 nuts + 3x M3x22mm bolts (longer bolts can be cut or adjusted with washers/nuts, so they stick from the other side only up to 6-7mm)

Use a drill stop or tape to limit depth to 7mm while drilling (standard IKEA hole depth)

Assembly is pretty intuitive, especially if you check the photos. If you’re unsure, just wing it. IKEA style.
