Different way of making a 3D printed windsurf fin that can withstand the extreme forces.
This is not meant as a new revolutionary fin but a new way to 3D print windsurf fins quickly and cheaply to try out new ideas. The whole idea is to keep as much of the print in compressions possible as 3D prints are nearly indestructible if held in compression.
This design is centred around 1.5mm Stainless steel. The foil is 3D printed and contact cemented to the steel. I then put a small layer of epoxy filler on (The epoxy adds a lot of strength as it soaks into the print pore space and works sort of like fibreglass), sanded smooth then one layer of glass to hold it all together.
Was very surprised it worked way better than expected, was only 16cm draft fin with 8.6m sail on 117l board and worked extremely well in 12kts wind …here's the vid. It flex'd a bit too much so probably need more than one layer of glass but the main thing was it didn't break. This is only 16cm draft fin designed for heavy weed and it handled my 8.6m sail just fine.
