Summary
Inspired by my visit to Comic Con 2013, this is one wicked calibration test. Two halves of the cube will slide together to form Lemarchand's box; a fictional lock puzzle or puzzle box appearing in horror stories by Clive Barker, or in works based on his original stories.
The various parts can be printed in different colors, or ommitted, for creating storage nooks. The center pins can be used as ink wells, if you need to write something in blood.
Instructions
ABS works fine. Doesn;t warp (at least not for me). Use 0.4mm layers, and any infill you like. This creates double walls. You can scale the whole thing down by half, and print single walled, but the fit may be even tighter.
Print two copies of the main cube structure. Slide them together in one of two configurations.
Warning: Do not attempt this print without a well calibrated machine, or you will encouter much pain and suffering.
Even if you manage to print it perfectly, be aware that the box pieces fit very precisely, and the corrugation of the layers will make it impossible to separate the two, unless you take some precautions first. I recommend flat filing the inner mating surfaces smooth, and testing the fit every half inch or so, until you can easily push the two main parts together, and bring them back apart.
Oh, and if they do get stuck together, just be sure it's in the portal closed position, otherwise, who knows what might come through from the other side.
