Summary
As a fan project, I long ago created VRML versions of the Battlestar Galactica star-fighters and other spacecraft from the original “Battlestar Galactica” TV series (1978). Although the Vipers, Raiders, and Battlestars themselves are well represented on Thingaverse, I haven’t found a Cylon Base Star from the original series. This one is modified for 3d printing, and could launch/recover smaller military spacecraft in wargaming, display, etc.. Scale is unknown - made to fit my printer.
Print Settings
Printer Brand:
ELEGOO
Printer:
ELEGOO MARS 2 Pro
Rafts:
No
Supports:
Yes
Resolution:
4k
Infill:
hollowed
Notes:
I printed this with medium supports in Chitubox Free (55% support), hollowed to 1mm thickness with a 10mm round hole in the bottom for drainage and mounting. It prints nicely at 100%, though in the nature of resin printing detail will be lost on the under-surfaces. It might be very interesting to print (much) larger on a FDM printer.
Post-Printing
When hollowed, take care to drain all uncured resin from the inside; it’s good to use a UV LED on a wire probe to expose the insides completely.
How I Designed This
This was created using Blender 2.82a including export to .STL files, originally created with Imagine as VRML models. Sources are the TV series and the Monogram hobby kit - this is a small scale model, so panel and conduit details are deleted.
Painting
Mottled grays, darker in the canyons. See video imagery from the 1978 series if additional details are desired.
