A multipart Book Holder system for use with RostaP's excellent Multifunctional Small Arm System.
I like to type out notes from books I'm reading and this holder allows me to place books right beneath my monitor.
Features
- Designed to be printed without supports and attempting to keep weight bearing parts oriented for strength.
- Designed to use minimal hardware.
- Modular so that it can be customized for your use. I often swap out positions/parts for different books.
- Fixed arms can be oriented vertically or horizontally to support wider/taller books adequately.
- Page holder arms can be adjusted and two sizes are included for different size books.
- Depending on the cant/angle you keep your book at, you may need to adjust these page holders to prevent books from slipping or tipping.
- Page holder arms can be adjusted by pressing up on their base, which pushes the spur gear above the locking teeth, allowing the arm to turn. Letting go of the arm usually locks it back in place, but you may need to gently pull it back into the locked position.
Printing
- Back Plate: 20% infill has worked for me, even with heavy books, print flat.
- Arms: only the fixed ones are weight bearing, but 20% infill worked here as well.
- Bottom Holder:
- Print at 100% infill as this part takes the brunt of the load. This really only affects the parts around the connection points anyway.
- Print with the connection points flat on the bed, will channels on the bottom will be perpendicular to the print bed.
- Bottom Plate: 20% infill (non-weight bearing), and print flat on the bed.
- Spur Gears: 20% infill (non-weight bearing), and print flat on the bed.
Assembly
Mount the back plate first onto whatever it's being mounted to. I have mine mounted to holder-small-nuts-18-18-M4.stl, two small arms, and then to a LumoPro Clamp using my Super Clamp to Small Arm System Adapter, secured using this nifty 3D printed tripod screw.
Minimal hardware required: only two M4 nuts and bolts to secure to the Small Arm System.
The parts simply slide together. All except for the spur gear which needs to drop into/through the bottom plate. After that, slide the page holder arm onto the gear base.
I would suggest super gluing the back plate, bottom holder, and bottom plate together, not that I've gotten that brave yet.
