Summary
Here are two decorated teacups with matching saucers. They were calculated with the openSCAD code from thing:2180347-Teacups with Matching Saucers. The program uses decorated spheres as templates. Any roughly spherical object will do, decorations can be either embossed or incised. Two nearly spherical polyhedra were used as templates - one based on a 632 electron solution to the Thomson problem - thing:393712 -; the second using one of Hart's propello polyhedra - thing:1136184. Details are in the openSCAD code.

Notes:
Minimal support was needed for the handle and bottom center of the cups. The saucers also printed better with support near the bottom center; the increased curvature near the saucer rim makes support there unnecessary. Support angles, for the makerbot printer, were 75 degrees for the saucer and 79 degrees for the cup.
