On 14 September 2015, the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) made the first detection of gravitational waves, long predicted by Einstein's theory of general relativity. This pendant shows the gravitational wave signature (the strength of the wave vs time) of two merging black holes, as seen by LIGO's Livingston detector.
