The Phone Box prevents students from getting distracted by their phones while learning at home by creating a physical separation between phones and students. An issue that arose during the design process was creating a lock mechanism so that accessing the phone requires 2 actions instead of 1 (to discourage frequent phone use during class), while still maintaining a simple and elegant design that is easily assembled. Over many iterations, I eventually created a simple 2-piece lock that you rotate 90 degrees to physically block the removal of the tray from the box, but if I redesign the Phone Box I would want to create a more ergonomic handle that's easier to hold. 3D printing would help strengthen the design because on a small, phone-sized scale, the minimal expansion of the plastic when printing could affect how smoothly the lock works, so after 3D printing, I could measure how much I need to scale the lock by to make everything fit together smoothly.
