Zenobia (circa 240 AD - ?) was a queen of the 3rd centurySyrianPalmyrakingdom, known for her stunning beauty and for leading Palmyra in resistance against theRoman Empire. She was the second wife of Palmyra's kingSeptimius Odaenathus(also translated as Odenathus). In 267 AD, Odaenathus died, and Zenobia became the Queen of Palmyra. In 269 AD, she began to expand her territory, capturingthe Roman Empire's rule over Egypt and expelling the Roman Empire's stationed in Egyptlocal governorTenagino Probus. Zenobia's reign in Egypt lasted until 272 AD, when she was defeated by theRoman armyand became a prisoner of theRoman EmperorAurelian.
