Exu is one of the most important and complex deities (Orixá) in African-matrix religions, such as Candomblé and Umbanda.
He is the orixá of communication, language, movement, dynamism, and transformation. He acts as the messenger between the human world (Aiyé) and the spiritual world (Orun), being essential for rituals, prayers, and offerings to reach the other Orixás. As the force that governs paths and crossroads, Exu represents the capacity for choice, shrewdness, and the opening of opportunities.
Historically syncretized or mistakenly associated with negative figures due to a Eurocentric view, Exu does not represent evil; he symbolizes the neutrality of nature, balance, justice, and the vital energy that moves everything that exists.
