I made this parametric model to create custom measuring spoons for my muesli instead of weighing the ingredients every time. Each spoon has a predefined volume, which is calculated automatically from the desired food weight and the bulk density (also called tap density) of the material.
Workflow
Determine the bulk density of your material.
You can either look it up on the internet or measure it yourself by dividing the weight by the volume of a larger sample.
For example, I measured:
Chia seeds: 0.65 g/ml
Chopped walnuts: 0.48 g/ml
Decide how much of the ingredient you want the spoon to hold. My spoons are designed for
10 g chia seeds
40 g chopped walnuts
Enter the bulk density and desired weight into the spreadsheet.
Customize the spoon by adjusting parameters such as:
Bowl shape (H_bR and H_tR)
Handle dimensions
Wall thickness
Add a custom label. The text will appear on the underside of the spoon.
Select the part "Loeffel" and export it as an STL.
Print your custom spoon.
Printing
I recommend printing at the upper end of your material's temperature range to achieve dense, well-bonded layers. No supports needed
As with all 3D-printed objects intended for food contact, make sure you understand the limitations regarding food safety and hygiene.
The included FreeCAD model allows you to generate your own custom spoons simply by changing the spreadsheet values.
Please note that the model is still experimental. Parametric FreeCAD models can be easy to break with unexpected parameter combinations. If you run into problems, let me know—I would be happy to improve it.
