Summary
Printable parts for the outdoor unit of a wireless packet telemetering rain gauge.
The parts in this design are generally similar geometry from the original (thing 4725413), but none is mechanically compatible with the original design. All these parts are designed only to fit each other.
Differences from the original
The Base part in this design includes a built-in bracket for a two cell AA battery holder that was not part of the original. The Sensor in the original design is replaced with a 3D printable enclosure for the hall effect sensor printed circuit board documented here: https://github.com/w5xd/PacketRainGauge. That github repo contains the source files in OpenSCAD and FreeCAD for all the printable parts, and more detailed comments about how all the parts work together.
Improvements Jan, 2026
bucket-improved.stl has an insert for a 1/4" hex nut that weights the bucket for a much more consistent volume of water per click.
funnel-improved.stl enlarges the funnel opening into the bucket and adds a cross-hair strainer structure.
Assembly Note
When assembling the two enclosure halves (Body001 and Body002) with the PCB between them as a sort of sandwich, it might be possible to squeeze the halves together tightly enough to permanently actuate the RESET switch on the Sparkfun Arduino Pro Mini. Don't squeeze it that hard. It will not telemeter and instead run the battery down in about 24 hours.
Flange
The flange in this design happens to fit the top of the T-profile steel fence post where I wanted to mount my rain gauge.

All except the following printed successfully using Prusament PETG, .4mm nozzle, 0.2mm layer height, no supports:
- The Base needs a support enforcer volume for its O Ring compartment. Do not let the slicer auto-generate supports because the screw holes will all get filled.
- The AA-print needs supports, which may be auto generated.
- The Funnel may be printed faster with a larger nozzle and higher layer height. I used a 0.5mm nozzle and 0.35mm layer height.
- The Flange needs supports, which may be auto generated.
