As a systemadministrator (IT guy) we sometimes find a networkswitch that has died. This results in a part of the network that is down. And we will have to restore this as quick as possible.
You can replace the networkswitch and import a backup file if you have it so that part is back up and running.
I myself have experienced this a few times. But one thing that was always a bit of a hassle and taking time to restore the network was getting all the network cables that were in the switch back at the same connection on the new networkswitch. This is why we started with network couplers. We took 50 of them and put a numbered label on them. If we would take a cable out of the old switch we would connect it to the coupler matching the number of the port the cable came out of. When the switch is replaced it is easy to plug the cables back in by just matching the numbers.
We always threw these connectors in a storage bin. When we needed it we always first had to sort the numbers in order to start disconnecting the old switch. Therefore I made this tray with numbers so the couplers are already in order and we can start with the removal of the switch immediately when we need to.
Often these switches are 48 ports with 2 upload ports. So therefor I made 2 trays with each 25 connector holes. If you have a 24 ports switch the first tray will be enough for you.
To make sure the connectors wil fit and you do not waste a lot of filament I added a small cube with the hole for 1 coupler. If you have printed this and find that your couplers fit fine you can print the hole tray. These holes are exactly the same.
The couplers we use are these ones. But I also had a different coupler lying around. So I created the hole so it would fit both.
If you are a system administrator I am sure you can recognize the problems described above. And I hope this can help you. If you are not a system administrator but you like to get in to favor with your IT department show them this idea. Maybe they like it so you can print one for them.
All files are available as .STL and .3mf for printing. I also added the Fusion 360 files. So if you need to adjust it you can do so to your size couplers.
