Parameterized stove knob generator
Essentially, there are these little guys called toddlers who love interacting with things that their parents enjoy doing, and sometimes that includes the stove. My child pushed a footstool up to the stove and turned it on. At that moment, I knew I needed to outsmart him, otherwise he might accidentally burn himself
With the help of my good friend Gemini, I created a customizable SCAD file. The design quickly turned from a concept into code, but after a week of code, tolerance, and design testing, this is the result I've achieved.
These printable files are suitable for Hotpoint stoves from the 1970s. These knobs may not be suitable for your stove
You want the lid to be locked very tightly. They can turn the lid like a knob, but the knob itself won't turn. In your pursuit of making the knob lid too tight, you might invent a lid that removes the back and the knob together when pulling it. If this happens, it might be helpful to create a tight TPU gasket using my custom gasket generator to help secure the back. I only needed it on one of my 6 stove knobs.
Only print with PETG. The top of the stove will get hot, so PLA might not be a good idea. Additionally, you'll need a bit of flexibility.
The workflow of installing the knob cover.
1.) Pull the stove knob off the latch
2.) Put the back around the latch
3.) Reinstall the knob on the latch and pay attention to the shape of the knob and the shape of the shaft to ensure the correct orientation.
4.) Press the front panel firmly.
Update: I now have a new model that is more suitable for the mode selection knob. It leaves a tiny gap between the lip edge and the knob, and slightly reduces the lip edge. This helps you grip the knob better. Overall, I recommend that the knob cover you generate be slightly larger than your knob, and the lip edge be slightly shorter than your knob. If you don't do this, using the stove might be difficult.
