This camera lens hood has been designed and optimized specifically for FDM 3D printing without supports.

The lower geometry has been carefully shaped to maintain overhang angles at or below 40°, ensuring reliable support-free printing on standard desktop 3D printers.

All functional threaded areas are preserved and include a 0.15 mm clearance tolerance, providing a proper fit after printing while accounting for typical FDM dimensional variation.

The external shape has been optimized for printability and structural integrity, without compromising functionality or compatibility.

Recommended for use with a 0.4 mm nozzle, standard layer heights (0.2 mm), and PLA or similar materials.

This model is designed to be known as supportless-capable, with overhangs optimized to approximately 40°.

However, for the best surface quality on the lower curved area, it is recommended to add 2–4 small manual supports in the slicer.

Placing a few tree-style supports only under the lowest points of the bottom arc significantly improves print quality and reliability, while keeping post-processing minimal.

Functional threads and tolerances are not affected by these supports. 

📦 Model Versions – Differences & Features

🔹 Version 1 (V1) – Male Thread Only

Description:

This version includes a single male thread and is intended as the base model of the design.

It focuses on proper fit, dimensional accuracy, and reliable support-free 3D printing.
The lower external geometry is optimized to maintain overhang angles at or below 40°, allowing clean FDM printing without supports.

All functional dimensions include a 0.15 mm tolerance to ensure compatibility after printing.

Use case:

🔹 Version 2 (V2) – Male + Female Thread

Description:

This version extends the base design by adding an internal female thread while keeping the same external geometry as V1.

Both the male and female threads are preserved with a 0.15 mm clearance tolerance for reliable assembly.
The lower part of the model remains optimized for support-free printing, with overhang angles limited to 40°.

No functional or structural compromises are introduced compared to Version 1.

🔹 Version 3 (V3) – Male + Female Thread + Visual Guides & Grip

Description:

This version builds upon Version 2 by adding visual alignment guides and external grip features.

All added elements are designed to avoid downward-facing surfaces, preserving full support-free printability.
Functional threads and 0.15 mm tolerances remain unchanged.
