This is an outrigger for the EduMIP (Mobile Inverted Pendulum) robot. This kit may no longer be avaiable - see the web site at https://www.renaissancerobotics.com/eduMIP.html. Other resources also exist, and the robot is apparently open source.
This is one of the less expensive ways to build a ROS-based system, based on the Beaglebone Blue. The 'bot must balance to move, which takes a significant amount of both power and CPU cycles. Since the Beaglebone Blue is not the most powerful board and the battery size is limited, I wanted a way to use the system without the penalty of balancing. Also, I wanted to mount a upward-facing web cam, and this outrigger provides a location.
I've printed two previous designs, which resulted in the current design. I'll update with pictures once complete. I didn't need a raft, but your mileage may vary.
Post-Printing
Fasteners are sized for M2.5 or M3. On my printer, I didn't need to do any cleanup to insert the nylon rollers. A dab of superglue may help to retain them.
