Nuclear NAS
I bought the Odroid HC4 nas server because the board is great. The toaster design that comes with it is NOT great.
I think the design of a classic cooling tower from nuclear powerplants is iconic. I desided to try designing a NAS server copying that design.
Both 2.5" and 3.5" HDD is supported
Assembly
To assemble the NAS you will need: 10pcs M3x8, 4pcs M3x25 and the original screws from the HC4 board.
If you would like to have cooling, then a 90mm PC cooler. The board can deliver 5 Volt from the connector. If you have a 12Volt cooling fan it is possible to solder a connection on the board for that.
All screws are directly taped in to the plastic.
The ethernet and power connector is not accessible from outside. They need to be fittet before putting the Tower on top of the Base. The SD card is accessible from above when HDD trays are removed.
Printing
I would highly recommend you to verify your printer accuracy in X and Y size. Start by printing the HDD tray and messure it. It should messure 113.5mm in width. This will ensure that electronics and HDD fits the screw holes.
The HDD tray and electronics frame should be printet in heat resistant filament. I would NOT recommend printing this in PLA.
I printet all in ABS. 0.2mm layer with a 0.4mm nozzle. 15% infill. 3 perimeters. 5 bottom and top layers.
No support is needed.
The tower has build in brim that needs to be cut out after printing. This is for better bed adhesion.
The top GRID has to be printet with NO bottom or top layers, 3-4 perimeters and 15 - 20% infill. Choose infill pattern to your likings.
