Although I am still waiting for my test handle to arrive (a standard one I purchased on line, not made) I've worked up the basic adapter for standard cane handles that have a threaded rod and a collar onto my collapsing cane. 

¼", 5/16", and 3/8" threaded rods are supported, as those seem to be the ones in common use.
