Light mounted on side of a bicycle wheel.
The main construction is printed from PA, the cover is TPU.
You will need (per wheel):
- 12 threaded inserts (M3) and 12 bolts (M3x5 or M3x8 best allen head).
- arduino board with integrated IMU (I've used Xiao nRF52840 Sense)
- hall sensor board
- strong magnet
- WS2812B led strip or SK6812 (the IP65 version is better)
- some cables
- powerbank
The assembly is held with zip ties (like 3mm wide ones) on the spokes. There are openings for the zip ties.
Solder the hall sensor board to the arduino board.
You can start assembly by the “control part”, you will have to pass the led strip cables through the opening, and solder the the control and power cables to the arduino board. Then you can solder the USB power cable to the arduino board.
After soldering you can assemble the structure using the threaded inserts and bolts. After assembly you can place the led strip in place (the opening is wide enough to fit the strip without much force). You will have to use some glue or silicone on the beginning and the end of the strip to make the strip watertight.
After the lighst are assembled you can fix them on the wheel using zip ties. This model is made to fit 29'' rim. You can change the diameter to fit your rim (you will need to measure the internal diameter of the rim. then use the .ipt parametric files)
After assembly you will have to find a place for the magnet on the frame/fork and read its position (uncomment the Serial.println line in the sketch). You will have to modify the rotation value in the detection section.
Added some rubber covers for the light strips. To print from transparent TPU.
There are two models. You will need one “end” and 7 normal covers.
