These sand casting patterns have varying degrees of draft from 1 to 10 degrees. They are designed to fit into a smaller flask like my “Easy Cast Flask”.
Like with 3D test patterns, the aim of these is to help calibrate your:
- Pattern Creation (eg FDM vs Resin, Smoothing, Release agents etc)
- Sand “Quality” (eg Green vs Oil Bonded)
- Resolution (how well can you see the details)
- Surface Finish (how rough or smooth is it)
- Ramming Technique (Sifted, hard vs soft ramming)
- Pattern Pulling Technique
In looking at these examples, you can see I
- clipped the edges on at least 1-3 (Green Sand) and 1-5 (Oil Bonded) and even failed to extract some of the posts.
- The Oil Bonded sand has better resolution than my Green Sand (the top text is readable on the Oil but not the Green Sand). The large text on each cylinder came out with both.
So I need to:
- Get better with a more level pattern extraction.
- Ram the green sand up just a little more.
