Summary
An adjustable, re-configurable, and customizable head mounted display for hobbyists and prototyping. many of the parts can be changed or customized to fit different electronics and optics without re-printing the entire build.
Instructions
This configuration is designed to fit a Samsung Galaxy S4. If you are using another phone you may need to change the Phone Plate part to fit your device. Use the phone plate template for this.
you will need to buy or acquire lenses for this project. the lens plate is designed to use 45mm lenses in single or dual setup. the lens plate v2 is designed to use 38mm lenses, or a combination of 38mm and 45mm lenses. The lenses are held in place with clear epoxy set into the notches on the lens holders. If you are using some other lenses, you may need to make your own lens plate, use the lens plate template for this.
you will also need some rubberbands, as they hold your phone in the phone plate, and a strap if you intend to use one.
when printing the set screws you may need to scale them up or down depending on your printers configuration and settings. (mine worked better after scaling up 5%)
you will need to print 22 parts to fully assemble this project:
1X mask plate
1X mid plate
1X phone plate
1X lens plate (either v1 or v2 depending on your lenses)
1X strap arms (optional) (these have floating parts, use supports)
8X set screws
4X set screws (optional)
you only need to print the strap arms and the screws for them if you intend to use a head strap. the "top" of the strap arms have a small indicator as they are only meant to fit on one way.
the plates are designed to slide on the rails of the corresponding plate, except for the lens plate which snaps into the mid plate. you can adjust these for comfort and lens focus. when everything is lined up correctly, tighten the set screws to keep the plates in place.
