The holes are 1cm in diameter and the distance from top to bottom is 10cm. The brushes in the picture are Golden Maple, which I use for miniature painting. The holder is surprisingly sturdy and is even more so with more brushes in it. As long as you aren't too rough with it, you shouldn't have any issues with it falling over.
