The RMS Titanic was a British passenger liner that sank on April 15, 1912, during its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York, after colliding with an iceberg. Approximately 1,500 of the 2,200 passengers and crew perished, while about 700 people survived. The vessel was 882 feet 9 inches long and displaced 52,310 tonnes.
