Notes:
The threads need to be relatively smooth, so print in a high resolution or plan on smoothing it out after printing. Running the cooling fan might help.
The quality of the printed threads may be affected by your slicer software. For example, I noticed that Slic3r (at least how I had it set up) added little bumps between the threads. Other slicers didn't have this issue.
Note that the Katadyn filter itself is made of ABS (at least the part that this object screws into). I don't think thread wear should be a problem, but you may want to avoid filaments that are abrasive or extremely hard.
How I Designed This
Designed in FreeCAD 0.16
I had to play around with the threading to get it to work without breaking the model's faces. Aside from avoiding overlapping faces, one of the biggest non-obvious steps was cutting the ends of the swept helix with primitive cubes before joining the threaded cylinder to the rest of the object.
Many attempts to taper the thread or to move the start of the threading down the cylinder breaks the model. After a lot of trial-and-error, I found the current model to be good enough - not as polished as I would've liked but functional nonetheless.
The STL was fixed in Netfabb before uploading to Thingiverse.
