Summary

This is a remix of this project from printables. I drove many thousands of kilometres with it both by bike and motorcycle but unfortunately it did not survive the heatwave in southern Italy - the base became soft and the nut melted through it. So I improved it upon my return. The key changes are thicker base and housing plus improved tolerances between the housing, the mount and the base to prevent vibration-related wear. I also used different material to print so here are my suggestions:

Print Settings

Base

• Layer Height: 0.35 mm or lower
• Infill: 30%
• Material: Use something robust like nylon to make sure the not does not get loose because of heat or vibration
• Supports: not required

Housing and Mount

• Layer Height: 0.35 mm or lower
• Infill: 30%
• Material: PLA would work
• Supports: not required

Phone Adapter

• Layer Height: go as low as you can due to the size of the gap for the mount to fit in, I did 0.1 mm; you can make the connection tighter by scaling it down along Z axis
• Infill: 30%
• Material: use flexible material like TENAFLEX as it will wear much slower and will forgive miscalculated tolerances when you try to fit the mount
• Supports: ideally you should use them to support the latches but I managed without

Spring

The spring was in the original project and its only role is to keep the connection tight. From my perspective, it is not required and it requires some skill to print. I managed to do it so here are the settings if you want to go full monty:

• Layer Height: go as low as you can, I did 0.1 mm
• Infill: 100%
• Material: PLA worked for me
• Supports: a must

BOM

• One M3 nut
• One M3 screw
• Very High Bond tape to attach the mount to your phone.
