Today's standard desktop office staplers are disappointing. The staples are made of cheap metal, and the traditional style of stapler doesn't punch through a lot of paper unless you pound down on it, but that's where the cheap staples really show that they can't hold up under the pressure.
I discovered the Bostitch B8 stapler on sale in the office supply section of a local department store, and decided to give it a try. It's hand-held and uses levers to add mechanical advantage to the act of stapling papers; the staples it uses are not standard staples but have a pointed crown that gives them the power to punch through more sheets of paper.
The only problem that I had with this type of stapler is that it doesn't sit upright on my desk. I didn't want it sitting on its side as it might scratch the desk and was cumbersome to pick up from that position. Instead, I wanted it sitting nose-down on the desk, with the handles upright to make it easier to quickly pick up and staple documents. The nose of the stapler is slightly rounded, however, and it just won't stay upright in that position.
So, I present my solution . . . a stapler holster specifically sized for the Bostitch B8 stapler. It's a pretty basic file that I created in Tinkercad. The hardest part was getting the size just right to fit the stapler and determining how tall to make it so that it wouldn't be tippy on the desk, but not so big that it looks silly. On the floor of the holder, there's a small bump that's intended to sit between the two jaws of the stapler . . . the skinnier jaw fits in the small space between the floor bump and the wall of the holder. The bottom of the base has a small recess (so print with support) so you can glue in a felt pad or sticky feet to keep it from sliding around your desk.
This was printed on an FLSun T1 Max printer with .4 mm nozzle, using Sunlu PLA+ filament at .20 layer height, just the basic settings in the slicer, and turning on regular supports.
