Pharmacies are facing major challenges for keeping their staff safe during this COVID-19 crisis. Placing plexiglass shields in between patients and staff could add an extra layer of protection, and could prevent for example that patients can directly sneeze or cough on medical staff.
DISCLAIMER: by no means I want to make any health protection claims here. I simply observed that screens are placed in many places. This design is intended for educational purposes, and it is NOT approved by any health organisation. Use at your own risk, I will not be held liable for any use of this in real life, I simply share these designs. Nothing more.
The main photo shows what such a screen could look like in a pharmacy but it is not what I designed. The second photo is a prototype of what I designed with 3d printed connectors. The actual screen of course needs to be in transparent plexiglass.
There are many initiatives to get these screens quickly placed. The designs here can be 3d printed by anyone (or e.g. on 3dhubs.com for people in your local neighborhood with a 3d printer if you don't have access to a 3d printer yourself).
The files I uploaded here are for printing the connectors.
You will need to purchase transparent plexiglass plate of 2mm thickness and have it cut on the measures that you need. I recommend the following:
- main front plate 100cm wide by 70cm high (this leaves a 30cm gap)
- two side plates of 30cm wide by 100cm high
- one top plate of 100cm wide by 30cm deep
- one bottom plate of of 100cm wide by 40cm deep
(will update with an improved design)
for the 3d printed parts, you can print the two sets (one with and one without support), or alternatively do this per part:
- "corner": 1x normal, 1x mirrored (print with support)
these come at the top front corners - "l_edge_halfopen": 1x normal, 1x mirrored
these come at bottom of front panel - "l_edge": 3x normal, 3x mirrored
these come at bottom panel (4) and top panel (2 at the back) - "l_edge_open": 8x normal
these come at all intermediate places to support the front and top panels better
print more if you need to
Printing at 0.3mm resolution is fine. Infill at least 20%. Corners need to be printed with support, all other parts don't need support but you may need to add a brim.
