Print at 100% infill.

Remove the knob by pulling, mount the washer (chamfered side towards the knob for easier mounting if your dimensions are a bit off), and put it back. 

Voilá! The pressure from pushing the knob is now taken up by the outer housing instead of the brittle knob backend assembly.
