Wakam (WAlabot creator Kentucky cAMera) is a 3D-printable multicamera combining the fisheye visible-light view from a Insta360 Air with the radar imaging of a Walabot Creator. With appropriate software on a host connected by two USB cables, this device can produce a live feed painting radar data over the fisheye view.This device and software for it will be presented at Electronic Imaging 2020; a link to the software will be posted here around the time of the conference.
There are five parts to be printed from three separate designs: print three of the grub screws, one left side, and one right side. The left and right sides are held together by the 3 grub screws; the back side is the side with the text on it. Note that the screws and screw threads are all printed, including a tripod thread at the bottom of the unit. The Walabot Creator costs about $75 and the Insta360 Air used to be about $100, but has been discontinued and can be found for about half that price -- thus, the entire unit costs well under $150 to make.

The unit shown was printed using metallic-look silk PLA, but any PLA should do.
The left side is a relatively easy print oriented with the open sphere up. The right side is surprisingly not very hard to print either, but it prints with the open sphere facing the bed, and the center of the sphere top and top edges of the partial sphere are a bit of a challenge -- fortunately, they also are not critical, and a little filing and/or smoothing with a hot soldering iron can clean-up any imperfections. The 3 grub screws are the most challenging print, because 1/4" diameter is pretty small and 20 threads per inch is a quite fine thread. The real problem is that 1/4" diameter doesn't give much time for the extruded filament to cool, so a new layer can cause the previous layer to slosh around a bit. However, it's not hard if you print with a double wall and very little fill (to encourage rapid cooling), oriented with the slotted end against the bed, and take it slow with the fan on full. Regular 1/4"-20 screws could be used instead.Post-Printing
The only post-printing stuff was cleaning-up any flaws in the prints and using some black paint to improve the readability of the University of Kentucky logo and text saying wakam, 20200112 (the January 12, 2020 version).
