Licence Plate Mount Adapter
🧩 Description / Design Concept
3D printed adapter for licence plate mounts with damaged or non-standard brackets. It replaces broken plastic pins on the original holder and restores a clean, screw-based mounting system. The part includes an M3-sized thread area so you can fasten the plate with standard screws instead of relying on fragile snap pins. Designed for everyday automotive use with durability and weather resistance in mind.
🖨️ Printing orientation & tips
Print flat on the bed (back face down), as modeled.
This keeps the mounting surfaces and M3 thread region accurate and strong.
No supports should be needed in the intended orientation.
Adhesion: PEI smooth or textured sheet with glue stick or another adhesion aid recommended.
🛠️ Recommended settings
Material: PETG or ABS/ASA recommended for durability and weather resistance
Layer height: 0.08 mm (helps maintain fine details and thread geometry)
Walls / perimeters: 5
Infill: 50% (Grid/Gyroid) for a solid, stiff adapter
Perimeter engine: Arachne / variable line width if available, to keep the M3 region well-formed
Supports: Not required when printed flat
📝 Notes
The adapter is intended for M3 screws.
When printing in ABS, a scale of about 110% in X and Y only was used so that the M3 screw fits the printed thread comfortably (tolerance may vary by printer/material, so treat this as a starting point).
If the screw engagement feels too tight or too loose, fine-tune with small XY scaling or Horizontal Expansion (XY Compensation) ±0.05–0.15 mm instead of changing Z.
🔧 Assembly
Prepare the old mount:
Cut off the old plastic pins.
Drill 3.5 mm holes where the new screws will go.
Position the adapter:
Snap the adapter onto the existing lip of the licence plate bracket on your vehicle.
Fasten:
Use M3×10 stainless hex screws through the adapter into the prepared thread region.
Align the licence plate and adapter carefully, then tighten the screws until snug (do not over-tighten).
Check that the plate is secure and centred before driving.
