This is an over and under engineered phone dock that has no practical use but looks pretty cool. Phone charging station I originally saw on a Temu ad but doesn't actually exits. This project does require some technical knowledge beyond 3d printing.
I acknowledge this is a very inefficient design. I have noticed three major issues. First is the stepper motor draws a lot of power even when not moving. I have tried addressing this by disabling the stepper when the charger is in the upright position, but this doesn’t work well. Second, due to the small size of the enclosure and relative proximity to other electronic components there is a lot of noise on the “step” and “direction” wire to the A4988 driver. This leads to erratic behavior from the stepper motor and if not addressed quickly can cause failure of the A4988 driver. I have addressed this by wrapping the “step, direction, and enable” wires from the ESP32 to the A4988 in braided shielding. This mostly fixed the problem however occasionally the stepper motor will move unexpectedly. Third, the female usb-c connector used to power the device only works if the other end of the cable is usb-a. If you try to use a usb-c to usb-c cable you wont get any power. There is a workaround to this but I haven’t explored any further. I will post the “How to” below. If you have any questions please message me and I will do my best to help.
