A case for the Sofle v2 keyboard that features magnetically attached lids and tenting feet.
This replaces the lower PCB/bottom of the normal Sofle sandwich.
I tried to keep the profile as low as possible.
The lids account for relatively tall encoder knobs and feature a cutout as well (as to not make them even taller).
Printing
Case halves
The two case halves can be printed as-is.
The two parts are not symmetrical! The left side's AUX port is a little bit lower than the right's.
Lid
The lid needs to be printed top-down.
Feet
I recommend printing the feet so the cutouts for the rubber pads face up (the screw holes face the bed).
Additionally, I recommend setting the layer height to 0.1mm for the shallow incline (at least for the top-most Z height).
Assembly
The feet need to be mounted to the case first, as they are screwed in from the inside of the case.
The PCB will then cover up the screw heads.
The magnets are glued in with e.g. two-part epoxy. I recommend using a toothpick to push them all the way in on the bottom half.
On the top half, push the magnets in so far that they are flush with the surface. Any more will decrease the strength of the magnets holding the two parts together.
Screw in the standoffs with the screws from the bottom of the case. I find it easier to place the PCB sandwich on top of the standoffs and screw it in from the top.
Parts required
- 10*6mm standoffs
The profile of the case is significantly lower than the original PCB sandwich. The top edge of the PCB will only line up correctly if you use 6mm standoffs. - 20*M2x4 caphead screws
Due to the shorter standoffs, the screws also need to be a little bit shorter
Optional Parts
- 4*2.8x[5-13] screws
These screws (sheet metal/wood/thermoplastic) connect the feet to the case.
Use screws with pan head screws or another low-profile head, as not to interfere with the PCB - 8*8mm rubber feet
Small rubber feet/bumpers that go in the corners of the case. Flatter feet mean a lower overall profile of the case.
The cutouts on the feet of the case account for a diameter of 8mm. - 12*3x8mm cylindrical magnets
Magnets for holding the lids in place. The stronger, the better. - 2mm&3mm foam for damping
You can cut some damping foam to go between the PCB and the case (2mm) and inbetween the PCBs (3mm) if you like
Post-processing
The screw counterbores have a solid layer for bridging. You can either remove it with a drill or probably just push the screw through directly.
