Hi everyone! 👋
After making a bunch of pelmeni by hand (and getting tired of uneven edges and weak seals), I designed this simple hexagonal mold to speed things up while keeping that authentic handmade look and strong bonding between the dough layers.
Key features:
19 cavities — makes a generous batch in one go (perfect for family dinners or freezing extras)
Dual-ring design per cavity — outer sharp ring cuts the dough cleanly like a classic cutter; inner raised ring presses and crimps the two dough layers together, imitating hand-pinched edges for better sealing and that traditional pelmeni/ravioli appearance
Compact & efficient — hexagonal shape fits nicely on most print beds (~200×200 mm), low filament use, quick print
Easy to use & clean — just dust with flour to prevent sticking; rinse or dishwasher-safe (PLA/PETG)
No extra tools needed beyond a rolling pin
How to use (step-by-step):
Dust the mold lightly with flour.
Roll out a thin sheet of dough and place it over the mold (bottom layer).
Add your filling (meat, potato, mushroom, etc.) into each cavity — don't overfill!
Roll out a second thin sheet and place it on top.
Roll over the top sheet firmly with a rolling pin until the outer rings cut through and the inner rings seal/crimp the edges.
Remove excess dough from around the edges.
Flip the mold over and gently tap/shake to release the perfectly formed dumplings.
(Photos of the printed model and usage steps are attached above for reference.)
This is version 1.0 — my first take on it, printed on a budget Neptune 4 Pro with basic settings. It works great for pelmeni, ravioli.
Known tweaks I'd like to explore:
Slightly taller inner rims for even stronger crimping
Optional small feet or handles for easier flipping
Variants with different cavity counts/sizes
Very open to feedback, photos of your prints, remixes, or suggestions! Especially if you've got ideas for improving the seal or reducing sticking.
Print it, make a mountain of dumplings, and enjoy! 🥟🌀
Happy printing and happy eating!
