This is a face-turning dodecahedron twisty puzzle with a surprising twist.
I was messing around with a Litestarminx mechanism and found that hyperbolic cuts at a specific depth made a pattern on each face that resembled a Megaminx. When I shared this on the Puzzle Makers discord, several people expressed interest in it and convinced me that it was worth building.
It resembles Oskar van Deventer’s Proportional Oh from 2012, which is also where the name OH! Minx comes from. It’s also closely related to Eric Vergo’s Deceptiminx. The difference in this version is that the Starminx points are still visible, so it lands between the Litestarminx and the Deceptiminx.
Turning is good overall, but a little catchy since the Starminx points and centers can be slightly loose. I may tighten the clearances on those parts in a future version, but for now they should match what has worked well on other puzzles I’ve designed and which tend to print reliably for most people.
Hardware needed:
12ea Socket head cap screw, M3 x 0.5 mm Thread, 16 mm Long (McMaster 93070A073 or similar)
12ea Compression Spring, 0.5" Long, 0.188" OD, 0.13" ID (McMaster 9657K268 or similar)
Other hardware combinations may work, these are just the ones I prefer.

Assembly:
Start by first assembling the internal Megaminx shell (Core, spindle, MM Edges, SM Corners), set the tension, break it in, and lubricate it. Once that turns smoothly,, slot in the Pyraminx Crystal shell (SM edges). These will be loose, but don't panic. Finally, slot in the Starminx pieces to complete the visible outer shell of the puzzle.
