This is a protective case for a standard set of polyhedral dice (1d20, 1d12, 2d10, 1d8, 1d6, 1d4) made of materials like stone or glass that are at risk of chipping if they knock into each other. Each die sits in a separate fitted pocket to keep it from moving.
For dice at risk of being scratched or caught by hard plastic the pockets can be printed in TPU. If you have a multi-extruder printer you can use the combined model and paint TPU on the insides of the pockets in your slicer. For other printers, use the model with the pockets in separate inserts and print the entire insert in TPU.
The hinges can either be printed in place or printed separately and snapped together. They have fairly deep engagement, so if you plan to snap them together you'll probably need to print in PETG or something similarly forgiving. Either way, try to keep seams out of the hinge contact areas. You'll probably need to use the seam painting feature in your slicer.
The OpenSCAD model is customizable to support different size dice, and given the close fit you'll almost certainly need to do so. The defaults in the model and the pre-rendered STLs are sized to match the dice in the photos, a set of lapis lazuli dice from Norse Foundry, but since those are handmade, even other copies of the same set may not fit the same way.
I strongly recommend printing the bottom insert in something fast and cheap like PLA to check the fit for your dice before printing the entire model, especially if you're planning to use TPU. If a die doesn't easily drop into its pocket, don't force it.
The text on the top of the case in the photos was added as a modifier in the slicer; it's not in the model.
I built this model in OpenSCAD 2021.01 with the BOSL2 library (the version from 8 Jan 2025). You'll need BOSL2 installed in order to run the model.
