A backstop for a 12 inch cylindrical trash can to help reduce scuff marks on the wall and keep it in place. This is something I designed to help keep a kitchen trash can from sliding around after repeated use and to cut down on the scuff marks it was leaving on a wall when it (eventually) got pushed too close to the wall. The diameter of the circle in the piece is 12.1 inches so there's a little bit of wiggle room for getting the trash can slide in and out.
Due to the overall size of the piece (11 inch x 14.7 inch), I've broken it down into sections that can be printed on their own and assembled together. The pieces connect together via a dovetail with 0.25mm of clearance between the connections.
There's two variations of the back pieces (so make sure you pick the right ones):
- If your wall has shoe molding (like mine does) there's a version of the back pieces with a ¾ inch cutout. This lets the backstop brace against the baseboard instead of the molding.
- If you don't have shoe molding (or don't care) there's a version of the back pieces without the cutout.
I printed all the pieces in PETG with a 0.2mm layer height, but I think PLA wouldn't be a problem.
The photos I included in this model are of an earlier version of this backstop, but the overall shape remains the same. The updates cut down on the some of the sharp corners on the pieces and added more wiggle room for the trash can.
