This filter base and ring allows you to take a simple filter medium (like blue shop towels) and use them as an intake filter.

(I may make a version 2 someday that uses pleated filter instead, but haven't found a good source for a pleated filter.)

Replace the washers with the filter base and slide the retaining ring over the base.
