The purpose is to help an archery block out more of the area around the scope with the peep while the ring helps for centering. The ring is made a bit too wide so it will act as a spring and require no glue to stay put. sadly only confirmed on an early Sure-Loc models. it stays on via friction] so might need to scale up or down to get the perfect fit.
