A set of boxes and lids with varying fit tolerances and snapping dot depths to be used to find the most comfortable snapping / unsnapping, and also reliably staying snapped.
Basis:
- Snapping dots are half of a 3mm sphere, with solids on the lids outer walls and holes on the boxes inner walls
- Z-axis tolerance, for fitting the lid body fully into the box, is 0.2mm, with the snap dot solids & holes aligned offset by this amount
- Boxes are labeled “0.6” “0.7” and “0.8” referring to the mm depth of the snapping dot hole into the inner box wall
- Lids are labeled as “X/Y” with X being the lid wall fit tolerance on all four sides, and Y being the snap dot height above the lid wall surface.
- The fit tolerances range from 0.0mm to 0.3mm
- The snapping dot heights range from 0.5 to 0.7mm
My Makes and Findings:
- Purple is ABS, the best fit I found is Lid: “.3/.5” Box: “0.8”
- Lid wall width/length both reduced by 0.6mm, snap hold depth 0.2mm, gap 0.6mm
- Blue is PLA, the best fit I found is Lid: “.2/.5” Box: “0.8”
- Lid wall width/length both reduced by 0.4mm, snap hold depth 0.3mm, gap 0.5mm
- Clear is TPU, the best fit I found is Lid: “1./.7” Box: “0.6”
- Lid wall width/length both reduced by 0.2mm, snap hold depth 0.6mm, no gap
