I'm fitting all my LGB trains with battery powered internal lighting. For this I needed a way to hold the high power LED in approximately the same position as the original LGB light bulb would be.
So I designed this LED holder that has the same sized foot as the original LGB lamp holder, including the screw hole spacing. It fits this LED:
There are 3 high variants of the LED holder:
- low (I use this in most wagons)
- normal (same high as original LGB lamp holder)
- high (for LGB 30200 and similar, where the roof beams would throw a shadow with the normal high holder)
The OpenSCAD file is included, so you can modify this for any other LED size.

The electrics are very simple:
- battery holder for 2x AAA
- latching push button
- 1 or more (warm) white LED(s) (3.2V)
The internal resistance of the batteries limits the current. The button is accessible via an open window or via a door (which can be opened).
The reason why I put this all into the roof instead of under the wagon floor is: I don't like the cables that go from under the floor to the ceiling. They are always very visible, no matter how good they are hidden.
